West Hartford Podiatrist Attends Special Olympics World Games:
During the summer Dr. Kurt Rode, of West Hartford Podiatry Associates, attended the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles. He was invited to participate alongside physicians from around the world in a week-long seminar and training session related to Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Program. During his time there he participated in screening some of the 7,000 athletes that participated in the games.
Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Program provides free health examinations in a welcoming environment that removes the anxiety and trepidation people with intellectual disabilities (ID) often experience when faced with a visit to a medical professional. The program currently offers health screenings in seven areas: Opening Eyes: Optometry, Healthy Hearing: Audiology, Special Smiles: Dentistry, FUNfitness: Physical Therapy, Health Promotion: Better health and well-being,
MedFest: Sport physical exam and Fit Feet: Podiatry.
Dr. Rode has been involved with Special Olympics for 6 years and recently was appointed Clinical Director of Fit Feet in Connecticut. He is stepping in for Dr. Neil Zomback, who has been Clinical Director of the Fit Feet program for the past 15 years and has been a great asset to Special Olympics and Fit Feet alike.
