shockwave therapyHave you explored treatment options for your pain? The doctors at West Hartford Podiatry Associates offer a safe and effective treatment to help patients find relief from common conditions like Achilles tendonitis and heel pain. They are here to answer questions about EPAT, a fast and non-invasive solution. Schedule an appointment to see if this treatment is right for you.

What is EPAT?

Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Therapy or EPAT is also known as shockwave therapy. The FDA has approved the treatment, and it is used all around the world. Patients can expect each treatment session to last about 15 minutes.

How does the treatment work?

First, the podiatrist will apply an ultrasound gel to the treatment area. Then, the treatment begins as pressure waves are applied to the skin. An applicator moves around the problem area in a circular motion. As the applicator delivers pressure waves to the skin, the goal is for the regeneration of new tissue.

How can shockwave therapy help?

Shockwave therapy or EPAT can help treat the following conditions, among others:

  • Heel pain—Plantar fasciitis is a common form of heel pain. Patients feel the most discomfort first thing in the morning or after a time of seated rest.
  • Achilles tendonitis—Inflammation or thickening of the Achilles tendon is the cause of pain for this condition. For more severe cases, a podiatrist may recommend surgery.

What are the benefits?

Patients most love how they can treat their pain without surgery. Since shockwave therapy is a non-invasive procedure, there’s no downtime. Resume day-to-day activities without waiting.
